Private dance lessons with Andy (Mambo Vibes)

The majority of people are happy to just stick with group classes, but occasionally people request private lessons which is an excellent way to boost your way through the levels and in particular it will increase your social dancing skills and ultimately your dancing enjoyment.

Beginners

Private tuition before or shortly after attending a beginners group class...

Some people just like to start out Salsa with some prior knowledge before attending their first group lesson, and some like to attend a few group lessons and then boost their new dancing knowledge with one or more private lessons so that they are more thoroughly prepared for the level 2 improver class. Contact me to discuss how I can help you increase your dancing skills and get you dancing with more ease in the group classes and in the social dancing. Always remember that at Mambo Vibes we cherish all our new starters and we are always there to help you gain your confidence. I'm often seen DJing, but you can ALWAYS come over and ask me to dance and if you are guy, I can always find you a lady to dance with.

Improvers and Intermediates

What we can cover in an improver/intermediate private lesson (Men and Ladies):

Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue. (alternative teachers are also available for Cuban, Kizomba, and Ladies styling, contact me and I will try and arrange it for you).

1. Spinning - we will cover setup and execution, analysis and feedback in the exact problem areas required to get you to produce a controlled single and double spin.

2. Styling - We will open up opportunities as to where and when it is best for you to add a little styling to your dance. You may be surprised at the huge number of occasions you can add style to your dance. Style is a very very personal attribute you add to the dance and should be ALWAYS be integrated with your partner AND the music.

3. Musical interpretation - Mambo Vibes has become the very popular Salsa club it is not only because of the excellent teachers we employ, but also because of the purity of the Latin music we play. Mambo Vibes has built itself on an outstanding collection of Latin dance tracks and be assured that we certainly do have ALL the music required to demonstrate the many ways to interpret your dance to those amazing dance floor tracks (as opposed to just stepping through turn patterns). Turn patterns can look very dull and awkward unless they are being danced to the actual music.

4. Footwork - The footwork patterns used during warm ups are not always that easily picked up and many of the popular patterns can be covered as part of a private class. Generally speaking, we would recommend attending workshops to learn the more complex shines as they can take a lot of practice to perfect and it is not the most effective use of your private lesson time.

5. Specifically for leads, you may have some wicked moves but may find them difficult to lead at times. Issues arising in turn patterns failing to work is often down to the poor execution of the basic core moves, plus POSITIONING and TIMIMG. Dancing through your turn pattern we can observe your positioning and give you the feedback to rebuild the move and improve your lead to make the leading an absolute dream to execute which in turn releases more time and opportunity for you to prepare yourself for that next cool move.

6. Specifically for followers you will get advise on how to follow more effectively and efficiently which releases more time for you to style and interpret the dance and not just be focussed totally on the turn patterns the guy is trying so hard to get you to do. We can always easily point the finger at the lead for a move not working, but there can often be elements in the way the follower is following that contributes to a move not being successful.

7. When things go wrong, and it does go wrong even for the very best of dancers. The music breaks unexpectedly, a move goes wrong, the timing gets lost, but it is possible to gloss over a mistake and we'll give you some recovery methods that will get you back in time again with anyone observing probably thinking wow!!! that was just another cool (intended) move!

How much will it cost?

My key objective is to give you value for money and get you dancing with confidence wether you are a regular dancer at Mambo Vibes or another club.

The first thing to note is that there is no charge for last minute rescheduling/cancellations unless I have actually travelled to you, in which case all I would ask for is the travel charge to be covered. I am very fair and flexible with regards to appointments and appreciate situations do arise in life requiring last minute changes to plans and schedules. If you need to rearrange an appointment of a private lesson you won't be penalised with a last minute cancellation charge. Private lessons can be arranged during the day and weekend, with only certain evenings not being possible.

Private lessons are £25 per hour for all levels for up to 2 people in the lesson. For men we prefer it if you could bring your own female partner but if that is not possible we usually do have plenty of females willing to cover improver/intermediate private classes free of charge. But, private beginner lessons there will be an additional cost to cover the expense of providing a female follower.

If you want me to travel to you and you live inside Northampton there will be no travel charge, otherwise outside Northampton the following single travel charges will apply:

Up to 20 miles £10

Up to 30 miles £15

Up to 40 miles £20

example: Northampton to Milton Keynes = 23 miles cost for round trip = £15

example: Northampton to Kettering = 13 miles cost for round trip = £10
